Exteran Studios Launches Coders Rock, a No-Account Practice Site for Beginners
Coders Rock pairs with Learn to Write Code as a free, browser-based place to run pseudocode, Python, and JavaScript challenges -- no signup, no streaks, no leaderboard.
Exteran Studios launched Coders Rock, a free coding practice site at codersrock.com, on September 16, 2026. The site is built by Brian Kittrell, the same developer behind the codeBetter YouTube channel and Learn to Write Code, and is designed to sit alongside that curriculum rather than replace it.
Coders Rock ships two sections: a Practice area with 16 short challenges organized into eight sets, and a Playground for open-ended experimentation. All three languages the site currently supports -- a custom Pseudocode grammar, Python, and JavaScript -- run entirely in the browser, with no account required and no server processing a learner's code.
The site's stated design principle is the absence of the engagement mechanics common to other learning platforms: its own about page states "No account. No streaks. No leaderboard," and argues that streak counters, badges, and leaderboard rankings are "good for the people who made the course, not for the person taking it." The explicit goal is getting a learner "typing sooner and then out the door" to build something on their own, rather than keeping them on the platform.
Coders Rock frames its relationship to Learn to Write Code directly: Learn to Write Code is "the school," teaching a concept in plain English, then pseudocode, then real languages; Coders Rock is "the workshop next door," where a learner runs that same idea themselves once a lesson has introduced it. The two sites share the same pseudocode standard, and Coders Rock's eight challenge sets are matched to Learn to Write Code's own fundamentals lessons.
Additional languages -- C++, C#, and Java -- are planned for a later phase, pending confirmation of a free path to browser-based execution for each. For now, a learner working through Learn to Write Code's Python or JavaScript tabs can go run the equivalent challenge at Coders Rock immediately, without creating an account on either site.
